Welcome to Spotlight Theatre School

Spotlight Theatre School is Shanghai's leading performing arts training studio for children and young adults aged 2-18 years. Our passionate team encourages students to grow in confidence, courage, and creativity. Our students are the heartbeat of everything that we do. By offering tailored and bespoke courses for children of all abilities, we aim to provide a safe space for them to enter, discover and explore the magical world of performing arts.

Spotlight was founded by Imogen Taylor, who trained at the prestigious Royal Ballet School, White Lodge and the Arts Educational School. Following her career as a Principal dancer with the Royal Ballet Company, she moved across to musical theatre and performed in many hit musicals in London's West End. It is her passion for performing that inspired Imogen to step into a cultural role to share the magic of the arts with the APAC community.

PARTNERSHIPS

Spotlight Theatre School is the official LAMDA Examinations Representative in Shanghai. Spotlight also has affiliations with leading vocational schools and universities in the UK – namely, Guildford School of Acting, RADA, Elmhurst Ballet School and the Arts Educational School, Tring Park. Through these partnerships, Spotlight can call upon visiting lecturers, board advisors and industry professionals to lead course-specific workshops for Spotlight students.

LAMDA Examinations

The LAMDA Exam experience also provides a confidence-enhancing performance platform for our students. Spotlight has a 100% Distinction pass rate for all previous LAMDA sessions from Introductory to Gold Medal.

They have also just opened their new state-of-the-art studio venue in Jing'An, where they offer their SYT: Shanghai Youth Theatre and SYDC: Shanghai Youth Dance Company programmes.

SYT (Shanghai Youth Theatre) is Shanghai's premier musical theatre training programme. Led by seasoned professionals and visiting creatives from London's West End, this programme is a vibrant fusion of singing, dancing, and acting, cultivating a well-rounded musical theatre experience.

Students will explore iconic musical theatre numbers, hone vocal skills, and master choreography, all while fostering teamwork and self-expression.
