After a long and ambiguous closure, Vue Bar — the rooftop bar on top of the Hyatt on the Bund — is open again. The hotel shut down in 2023, a casualty of Shanghai's tourism slump, and gave little indication whether it would ever return. But with inbound travel finally picking back up (thanks to visa free travel? ), the hotel is back in business — and so is the bar.
Kind of.
Vue Bar's reopening feels more like a reboot from backup than a relaunch. No big announcements, no real updates. Same space, same layout, same slightly worn edges. The only major change? They've removed the rooftop hot tub — that odd but iconic visual centerpiece that was never actually used, but looked great in photos. It's just an empty patio now. A missed opportunity: no quirky bar installation, no water feature, nothing. Just... space.
Still, Vue lives up to its name. The view — a sweeping panorama of both the North and West Bund — remains one of the city's best. It's one of the few rooftops that captures both Lujiazui and the historic facades of the Puxi Bund in one frame. Worth a stop if you've got visitors in town and need a good skyline moment.
Access is straightforward: take the hotel elevator to the 32nd floor of the Hyatt on the Bund and follow the signs. Prices are typical hotel bar fare: buffet brunch runs 788–988rmb with free-flow drinks (or 688rmb for regular entry, 340rmb for kids). It may not be the fanciest rooftop in town, and the relaunch feels more functional than flashy, but it's still the Vue we know — and the view we love. You're not going for the drinks or the interior design, you're going for the photo.
