Founded in 1996, SCIS has been serving the Shanghai expatriate community in as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, providing a continuum of education consisting of PYP, MYP and IBDP for students aged 2-18. Shanghai Community International School (SCIS) has a diverse student community of 60+ nationalities, providing a truly international environment for learning students.

Self Introduction

Shanghai Community International School (SCIS) has had both of its campuses (Hongqiao and Pudong) authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, accredited to teach the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the IB Diploma Programme (DP). As an IB World School, we are part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world.

At SCIS, our curriculum includes performing arts, visual arts, languages, and athletics, in addition to numerous extracurricular activities for students to learn and develop skills outside the classroom. We nurture our students to be well-versed in more than one discipline and prepare them for university and beyond.

SCIS places such importance on its shared community due to its international nature, with students from over 60 different countries. There is no one dominant culture. With such a broad mix of nationalities, there isn’t a home culture. The staff and students at SCIS come together to create their own culture and their own community, something they have done successfully since SCIS was founded 20 years ago.

- Curriculum
  
  Primary Year Programme (PYP) prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. (Age 2-10)
  
  Middle Year Programme (MYP) is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP). (Age 11-15)
  
  International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
  is designed as an academically challenging and balanced program of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. (Age 16-17)

  We are happy to be at SCIS. We trust that SCIS is the right environment. We have heard a lot of comparisons by talking to other parents and I think this environment at SCIS is not as strict compared to German schools. You have the freedom to explore yourself and develop your personality and get to be a part of a community. These are the advantages here. There are not many schools where a teacher would stay after school and spend so much of their own time and help you grow. People have this misconception about it being an easy education. I think the thought process is continually in our brain—to figure things out by ourselves and learn that your future is in your own hands.
