Here's one for the weirdos, the ravers, the cinephiles, and anyone who's ever wanted to party inside a movie.

Donnie Darko's Shanghai House Party is happening this Saturday night at Garage Never Sleeps, and it's shaping up to be a full-sensory, mildly deranged mashup of immersive cinema, 80s throwback, and underground club night. There's a film screening. There's a costume dress code. There's a guy in a giant rabbit suit. And yes -- there's also a pretty serious lineup of DJs playing until the end of the world (or at least 5am).

This one comes from the team behind Donnie Darko Does Disco, which has been quietly mutating into something bigger and stranger. They're calling it an "immersive movie rave" now. You get the idea.

Music?

Paolo Ferrara (HEX, Italy), Monochrome (Japan), and a bunch of local support across three rooms — techno, house, hip-hop. There's even a dedicated hip-hop space for when you need a breather from the 4/4 madness.

Dress code?

80s. Go full prom-core, suburban goth, or just weird and nostalgic.

Tickets

Tickets start at 128rmb and that includes a drink. It's at Garage Never Sleeps on the 6th floor of K11, which is getting a reputation for these bigger, multi-room blowouts.

We talked to the promoter in this quickfire video — five questions, fast answers, a little chaos — to get a feel for what exactly this thing is. Spoiler: it's not just a club night.

VIDEO

If you're still on the fence, that should help push you off it. Probably into a wormhole.
