About

Shaoxing Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe is bringing their legacy production of Mu Guiying Takes Command to Wanping Theatre. This classic tale of loyalty, courage, and battlefield brilliance stars award-winning performers Chen Wenting, Tu Shaohua, and Lou Huiqin. It’s Yue Opera at its most stirring, staged by one of the genre’s most celebrated troupes.

The legacy production of Mu Guiying Takes Command revives one of the most iconic stories from the Yang Family Generals cycle. During the Northern Song dynasty, the Liao general Xiao Tianzuo invades with a powerful army, laying the Tianmen Battle Array at Jiulongyu. General Yang Yanzhao leads the Song forces but loses military provisions to the heroine Mu Guiying. When Yang Zongbao is sent to retrieve them, he is captured by Mu Guiying and eventually marries her.

Recognizing her loyalty and extraordinary military talent, Yang Yanzhao persuades Mu Guiying to join the Song army. She accepts the mantle of leadership, overcomes the schemes of the treacherous court official Wang Qin, and ultimately commands the army to a decisive victory over the Tianmen Battle Array.
