Get ready for a massive dose of French musical theatre magic! The iconic Roméo et Juliette: de la Haine à l'Amour is returning to Shanghai this winter, starring the legendary original Roméo, Damien Sargue, and Cécilia Cara as Juliette. This is the musical that pretty much defines the modern French musical scene, so expect powerhouse vocals, stunning visuals, and a timeless story told with serious passion.

The French musical Roméo et Juliette is set to return to Shanghai Culture Square in December 2025 as part of its 25th-anniversary tour. This production, adapted from Shakespeare's classic tragedy, tells the passionate story of Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers from feuding families who are willing to defy all constraints and even sacrifice their lives for love and freedom.

Since its premiere in France in 2001, Roméo et Juliette has become one of the most popular French musicals globally. It has toured extensively worldwide and is hailed by European media as a "new milestone for French musical theatre" and "the greatest pop musical of the 21st century".

The show features 34 songs of diverse and modern styles. The tracks "Aimer" (To Love) and "Les Rois du Monde" (The Kings of the World) dominated the French pop charts for 17 weeks. They are considered songs that, if missed, mean "missing a part of life's poetry". The musical is known for its grand yet delicate stage design, powerful choreography, and enduring character appeal, creating a spectacular audio-visual experience.

The musical has visited Shanghai three times before. The 2025 anniversary tour is expected to reignite the passion for French musicals in the city.
